In November, 1960, Robert Beard was installed as pastor of St. Stephen's and the church worshipped in the gymnasium of Hulstrom Elementary School
in Northglenn.
In 1964 the "white, funny shaped" (an upside down Easter Lily) building was completed and dedicated. The
architect for our first church was Charles A. Haertling. For a detailed story on the design and construction of the original St. Stephen's Lutheran Church (now our Education Building) visit
the architects firm.
In 1967, Pastor Robert Sieckman became the second pastor to serve the congregation. As the church grew, the congregations of St. Stephen's
and Good Shepherd Presbyterian churches built the PAL (Presbyterian and Lutheran) building. Both churches use the building for Sunday School and as a fellowship hall.
Pastor Sieckman retired in 1994. A call was extended to Pastor Mark Van House. Pastor Van House resigned in 1996.
Pastor Dave Denzer answered the call and became pastor of St. Stephen's on December 2, 1997. Since
then we have seen many new families join our church, defined our mission, and adopt a new commitment to ministry.
In November 1999, the congregation was rededicated as a "rite of passage" into a new era of mission to the unchurched of our community. We
have established an exciting direction as a visitor friendly, Christ centered, mission driven congregation.
We think of our identity as Christian first and Lutheran second. Being Lutheran reminds us of our common life grounded in Jesus Christ. As a
Lutheran Christian congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and of the Rocky Mountain Synod
of the ELCA., St. Stephen's enjoys the fellowship and ministry connections with churches, colleges, and faith institutions across America, and through mission commitments around the world.
On February 7, 2001 construction began on our new church building. We dedicated it on November 10, 2001. This
beautiful building enables us to better share Jesus' love with the world.
In June 2007 we began completion of our basement. The "Big Dig" is underway opening the doors to
new programs or ministries.
We look forward to the next forty years.
